Zakouma National Park
Location
Chad
Zakouma National Park, situated in southeastern Chad, is a critical stronghold for wildlife in Central Africa and harbors the nation's largest elephant population. Tragically, between 2002 and 2010, relentless illegal hunting decimated the park's elephants, resulting in the loss of over 90% of their numbers. In 2010, a turning point occurred when the Chadian government partnered with African Parks through a long-term management agreement. Since then, Zakouma has undergone a remarkable transformation: illegal hunting has dramatically declined, and wildlife populations are experiencing a significant recovery.
